Our Owner’s Suite, Two Years In

Our bedroom was the first priority when we moved in… Technically, second. We had a lot of furniture to buy! Now, here’s where it stands today.

When Andrew and I moved in, we knew that our bedroom needed to be a refuge—as quickly as possible. (We’re both cancer’s and need our home set up and balanced asap.) Buuuut, we had so much furniture to buy. We sold our 648 square foot condo in Southend and tripled our square footage! The furniture from the condo looked like dollhouse furniture. I wish I had taken a picture of our 30-inch round dining table in our current dining room. It was comical!

The first six months we focused on our priority list—letting our bedroom sit until a few weeks before Christmas. Guess what? We decided to host Andrew’s family and nothing pushes me to check things off the list than impending company! I painted the bedroom walls white and our headboard wall dark charcoal—which almost looks black and I love it! I checked phase one complete the day before the Lillys arrived.

After Christmas, my parents came down to help teach us how to install crown. (I grew up in a house where DIY projects were always happening around me—my parents are the experts!) Andrew and I picked out Johnny Moore picture frame moulding from Queen City Lumber and decided a large box with two littles on either side would give us the look we were going for. We used a two-by-four as our spacer between the crown, walls, boxes and baseboards. After caulking in the moulding and painting it black, Andrew installed two plug-in sconces, two shelves (side by side) above the bed and curtain hardware. I’ve added curtain panels recently, but have yet to hem them… Someday. We’re calling the space done for now, but we’re still hunting for the perfect vintage rug to finish off the room.
