Home Goals for the New Year: Our To-Do List
Three years in our townhome flew by—how did that happen!? We’ve got some big projects on the list and I am so excited to check them off!
I don’t know where the past three years went. It’s so cliche, but really, the years seem to go quicker the older I get. When we moved into our townhome in the spring of 2018, we had lofty goals (as always) to settle in quickly. Ha! The projects we decide to do always end up taking twice as long as expected and this year I am trying to be more realistic. Several projects hit pause when the holiday season rolled around and I am eager to get moving again!
Big Projects
There are four, so that means a big project each quarter!! We can do it—all the fingers and toes crossed!!
ONE | Stair Runners: remember this project was on our to-do list for before thanksgiving? Well, the first and second quotes were just out of our price range. We decided to wait and figure out a cost-effective DIY solution. We ordered samples from Sisal Rugs. Now, we just need to pick one!
TWO | Entryway boxes and double crown: we started daydreaming and planning this project early last year. It is one of those projects that will undoubtedly take us way longer. Right before Thanksgiving (literally, five days before) I decided to check phase one of the entryway off. I painted the walls white, installed a ceiling medallion and a new chandelier. Phase two will be installing double crown (crown moulding and a decorative moulding piece several inches below it). Phase three is adding picture frame boxes on the walls and up the stairs. See our mockup below.
THREE | Laundry Room: would you believe that we completed phase one in 2018? We installed a cabinet and a shelf with a hanging rod and said done for a bit. I spend way more time in this hall closet than I thought I would, so it deserves some more love. I’ve asked Andrew to install a light wood countertop above the washer and dryer, and I ordered this super fun wallpaper to make a big impact. I am thinking the wallpaper should be on the ceiling too—that’s a thing, right?
FOUR | TV Wall Boxes: our townhome is the end unit and the three surrounding walls are all windows—not complaining, we love it! Consequently, we only have one wall to make a big impact on the main floor and it also happens to be the TV wall. I cried like a baby and begged made a case for the Frame TV because we didn’t have the wall space for actual art. I recommend this TV to everyone! Andrew and I are still working on the details, but we have a rough idea to elevate this plain wall with decorative wall boxes. We plan to add double crown moulding, boxes using 1x4’s and tie it all into the existing baseboard—mockup below.
Small Projects
Paint the remaining greige walls white
Hang curtains (I love these panels in neutral and this hardware in matte black) in the dining room and living room
Paint the guest bathroom—I still haven’t settled on a color, but I am thinking about a soft gray-blue or gray-green? I’ll probably change my mind at least five more times…
Refinish the TV console and replace grasscloth fabric (unfortunately, it’s badly damaged) with cane
Build and install floating shelves in owner’s bathroom
Install double crown on the main level—is this small? Ha!
